Side effects:
Every medicine can cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following occurs:
Most severe:
Muscle weakness, tenderness, or pain; severe allergic reaction (giant hives; swelling of the face or mouth; difficulty breathing).
Most common:
Constipation.
Other:
Diarrhea; indigestion; gas; nausea; weakness; rash; itching; skin inflammation; stomach pain; headache.
Patient/Family Education
Take this medication in the evening unless otherwise advised by your health care provider.
Advise your health care provider if you eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice.
This medicine is most effective when used with exercise and a diet that reduces the intake of cholesterol (fat) and saturated fats.
Stop using this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs.
Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments.
Do not stop taking this medication without checking with your doctor.
Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider.
Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking this medication.
Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your doctor or pharmacist at your next appointment.
Storage
Store tablets between 41 and 86 degrees F.
